Joao Pedro Dias, a Flamengo reporter for the huge Brazilian publication Globo, answered Skorer’s question and shared his thoughts on what Jorge Jesus, who made his mark in club history, can do with Fenerbahçe.
Explaining the miracle that a Portuguese coach created in a short period of time with a red-black team, a Brazilian reporter gave the example of Guardiola for an experienced coach. He also compared Jorge Jesus to Domènec Torrent, another former coach of Flamengo who failed to live up to expectations at Galatasaray.

-Do you think Jorge Jesus can succeed in Fenerbahce?
I think you can definitely do it. He is the one who proved to be a coach who can build a definitive team in a short period of time. There is an example of this in his career in Portugal and Brazil. A similar job is waiting for him in Fenerbahce. He gets a name that fits the football mindset. If you have enough staff, you will succeed.
-Jesus worked only in Portugal and Brazil, except for a short period in Al Hilal. Is this a disadvantage in terms of adaptation to Turkey?
I don’t think this will happen. Brazil and Turkey have many common aspects of football. Enthusiastic fans, pressure from big clubs, demanding good results as soon as possible, and much more almost exactly overlap. There are some differences in the technical aspects of football played in the two leagues, but experienced coaches will adapt well to local customs.

-How was Flamengo when Jorge Jesus took over the team? He brought an unbreakable suit. How did he get this good team?
The team was playing very bad football when he arrived. As a result, his former coach could only work for four to five months. Jesus changed everything in an instant. He changed everything from team tactics to club thinking. It must be said that he brought a scientific approach and systematized the club. He was a far better coach than any other coach on the team. As a result, the league came in second, the championship began, and the Libertadores Cup won.
-At Fenerbahce, success is always expected in the short term. Can Jesus do things right in dark blue in such a short amount of time? What do you need to do to meet your expectations as soon as possible?
I think he can live up to his expectations in a short period of time, Flamengo did it. The team was confused and needed to change everything quickly. It didn’t work for the first month, but then it started to rise and a team of big offensive soccer emerged.

-If the expected result does not come immediately, the fans will start to react. Can Fenerbahce deal with such potential pressure from fans? Have you experienced this in the past, and have you had any experience with it?
In Brazil, it was easy because we got the results we expected in a short period of time. Therefore, the pressure on him soon disappeared. It should be remembered that he experienced the full pressure of this pressure during his term in sports in 2018. Fans raided the training facility and responded greatly to Jesus. Therefore, he has experience as a person who has seen such things.
-Soccer is played more technically in Brazil and Portugal. On the other hand, in the Turkish League, there is a severe soccer environment where physical struggles are conspicuous. Will this be an obstacle to football that Jorge Jesus wants to play for his new team?
It depends on whether Jesus can fit into the game system and whether the team plays their own football. If so, it doesn’t matter if he’s playing in a league that stands out. People thought Guardiola wouldn’t be successful in the Premier League because of his style of play, but he became the dominant player in the league.

-Portuguese coaches have done well with Benfica and Flamengo. Why didn’t big clubs in England, Germany and Spain appoint him? Is Jorge Jesus one of the top football coaches in the world today?
I don’t think it’s considered the best club in the world by the huge clubs. I think the answer to why you didn’t work in those clubs is just as easy. Jorge Jesus is the name that left its mark on Portuguese and Brazilian football. But to be like this; it must not have been considered sufficient in clubs such as Barcelona and Real Madrid. This is not my opinion. I’m trying to say that this is how the dynamics of the market work.

-What is Jorge Jesus’ idea of football? What kind of football will Fenerbahce play on the field next season?
Aggressive … Aggressive … Aggressive … Flamengo was used to smash enemies forward. He took the ball and played vertically as soon as possible and tried to go straight to the result. But this was not enough for Jesus. He always wanted more from the players, even when the team scored or even went. No one should think that when Fenerbahce takes the lead, he leans forward to defend his score. Jesus’ team continues to play aggressive football. Call the second, third, and fourth goals.
-Domènec Torrent is also a former Flamengo coach like Jorge Jesus … disappointed in Galatasaray and failed in Turkey. Can Jesus face a similar end? What is the difference between the two coaches?
Jesus is the second most important manager in Flamengo history. Domenec Trent was fired three months later. Jesus’ career is full of his achievements and trophies. Trent doesn’t have a trophy yet. These two are not the names to compare. Portuguese coaches are solid professionals and Spanish coaches have not yet proved themselves.

-Fenerbahce’s number one goal is the league championship. Given all the factors, is Jorge Jesus the right name to achieve this goal?
In my opinion, Jesus is the correct name for success. A coach who can lead Fenerbahce to the championship with his tactical knowledge and football mindset. Of course, factors such as the player’s situation and the competitive environment faced in the league also affect this.
