The project started in 2009

The National Torpedo Project was launched in 2009.

Developed by Aselsan, the AKYA torpedo is used to destroy underwater or ground targets on submarine platforms.

Along with the Roketsan AKYA torpedo, a domestic alternative to the German DM2A4 and American Mk46 torpedoes currently actively used by the Turkish Navy was born.

It aims to overcome the difficulties experienced in supplying large torpedoes from abroad using AKYA.
